Garry the Weatherman: “Good evening, friends, and welcome to our wet city on this fine September 17th”

[Mrs. Edna Travis] from Haskell, New Jersey: “I’m about to become a grandmother”
Wacky childbirth.  Mrs. Travis is 35, and is clearly expecting another child herself, which confuses the panel.  Mrs. Travis’ daughter [Marlene Lawrence] appears, in a matching maternity outfit.

16-year-old Mel Steinberg from Brooklyn: “I built an atom smasher in my house”
Using discarded parts, such as the motor from his mother’s washing machine and ball bearings from a roller skate, young Mr. Steinberg built his atom smasher for less than $100.  Garry says similar commercial ones cost $68,000.  Steinberg won science awards for his design, but because of the potential dangers, never even got to turn it on.

Special Guest Mickey Rooney has to get the audience to laugh before he can answer each question put to him by the panel.  Rooney talks about his upcoming role in the serious drama The Last Mile (1959), and is also promoting his current picture Andy Hardy Comes Home (1958).  Rooney starred in 15 Andy Hardy pictures from 1937 until 1946.  Comes Home was an attempt to relaunch the franchise with an older, wiser Andy (Rooney was nearly 40), but failed to inspire any further films in the series.
