Ten young supermarket check-out
girls, finalists in a nationwide contest, are seated in the front row.
Clarence E Willard from Alameda,
California: “I’m going to grow 4 inches taller” (while you watch)
Williard was billed as “The Man Who
Grows” when he demonstrated his unusual physical skill in vaudeville and later
for the Barnum & Bailey Circus. The
September, 1927 issue of Science and
Invention set out to explain his ability.
In his younger days, he could increase his height by 7 ½ inches. He’s 76 here, and presumably not as pliable
as he once was.
Rev. Kolenda from Flint, Michigan:
“I have ten sons…and they’re all ministers”
The sons are William, Norman,
Roland, John, Louie, Ernest, Arnold, Daniel, Herbert and Robert, and they all
appear on stage after the segment.
Before entering the ministry, the brothers and their father Paul ran a
business, distributing vacuum cleaners and home sanitation systems.
Special Guest Ann B Davis
Davis and Henry are on roller
skates, and as the panel asks questions, Davis occasionally skates off stage to
be replaced by her twin sister. Davis
had just won an Emmy for her role as Schultzy on The Bob Cummings Show. She
would later gain even greater (and longer lasting) fame as the housekeeper
Alice on The Brady Bunch.
