Captain X: “I’ve gone higher into space than any other human
being”
Ivan C Kincheloe, Jr was a flying ace
during the Korean War, and a test pilot of experimental craft. On September 7, 1956, Kincheloe took an X-2
rocket to a height of over 126,000 feet (24 miles), the highest altitude
achieved by a pilot at the time. Kincheloe
talks about the upcoming X-15 program and his hopes of becoming part of the
team that orbits the earth. Tragically,
Captain Kincheloe would perish in an airplane crash on July 26, just six months
after this appearance.
