Laraine makes her last appearance in her brief run as a regular panelist. Faye rejoins the panel full-time beginning next week.
Five unidentified children: “Henry Morgan is our
godfather”
In an August profile of Henry that tries to soften his image as the "bad boy" of broadcasting, Henry mentions that he has a total of 22 godchildren.
Special guest Joan Bennett: “I
have one strange object from each of the panel’s closets”
This is among the earliest examples of the show surreptitiously getting into the panelists' personal belongings. It would become a popular feature of celebrity secrets over the next few years, sometimes involving the entire panel and sometimes involving one of them in particular. Bennett had been a regular panelist h
erself for about four months last year. Whatever the reason for her dismissal, there appear to have been no hard feelings. She would continue to pop up from time to time either as a guest or as a panelist over the next few years.
Janet Kern:
“I know that the sponsor is in the theatre, but the panel don’t”
Kern is the radio and TV critic of the Chicago American newspaper and TV columnist for International News Service. She seems an unusual choice for a high-profile but non-celebrity guest, since as far as we can tell, she seldom mentioned I've Got a Secret in her writings. She would later write the well-received memoir Yesterday's Child (Lippincott 1962) about growing up in the Midwest as a Jewish girl. "The sponsor" is probably Ed Darr, the president of R.J. Reynolds, makers of Cavalier Cigarettes. Darr had appeared on-air just three weeks ago in the show honoring Garry following his return from summer vacation.
