Bill, Jayne, Henry, Faye
Unidentified man: "My wife thinks I am working late at
the office tonight (in Hammond, Indiana)”
Harry Myers, originally from Dayton, Ohio: “I got the first ticket for speeding in the
US (1904)”
New York City taxicab driver Jacob German was the first person to be cited and arrested for speeding back in 1899. He spent the night in jail, but it's unclear (and unlikely) that he received a ticket for his unlawfulness. That honor appears to belong to Mr Myers. Both men were cited for going at the reckless speed of twelve miles per hour, and both men were stopped by policemen riding bicycles. Outside of the US, the first known speeding infraction is by Walter Arnold in Kent, England in 1896. Mr Arnold was going 8mph in a 2mph zone.
Special guest Morgan the Dog: “I once kissed Faye Emerson”
Morgan is a lazy basset hound who made a lot of laconic TV appearances in the early days of television. He was a frequent guest on Garry's morning variety show. Morgan's popularity even inspired a stuffed toy. The stuffed animal stayed on the market for many years, long after the fame of its inspiration had waned. Morgan seems an
odd choice for a guest, and in fact a note from Gil Fates two weeks
earlier suggests that the vaudeville comics Olsen and Johnson were to have been
the July 14 guests instead. For whatever reason, they would not end up
appearing on the show until 1957 (
