[Mrs. Carl Nyberg] of North Branford, CT: “I

Mrs. B: “My husband is the world’s heavy
weight boxing champion”
Barbara Marciano is the wife of Rocky. Boxing was enormously popular in the 1950s,
and Marciano was one of its most famous stars.
He remains the only heavyweight champion to have retired undefeated. Garry
chats with Mrs. Marciano about her husband’s upcoming title defense in Chicago
on April 10th. This would be
his rematch against “Jersey Joe” Walcott, the boxer he defeated last year to
take the title. The fight would be
delayed until May 15th, and Marciano would win decisively with a
first-round knockout.
Special Guest Arthur Treacher: “I’m handcuffed
to Garry Moore”
A prolific British actor of the 1930s
and 1940s, Treacher’s film career was over at this point, except for one final
role as the constable in Mary Poppins (1964). He became a familiar face on
television, however, most famously as the announcer and sidekick for Merv
Griffin’s talk shows. In his later
years, he would lend his name to a chain of fish & chips restaurants that were
quite popular in the 1970s.
[Robert St. John] from New York (a young man):
