John W Travis of Hyattsville, MD: “I tuned
Harry Truman’s piano”
Truman studied classical piano as a
young boy, and it was said he never passed a piano without playing a tune. He played for an audience of 30 million
during the first televised tour of the White House in 1952. Still, as a performer, he was more
enthusiastic than accomplished. Mr.
Travis was not the White House piano tuner, but instead had tuned a piano that
the president used aboard a ship during his travels.
Special Guest Linda Christian: “My husband
gave me a black eye (by accident)”
Mexican
actress Linda Christian made only a dozen or so films in her career and was far
better known to the public as the wife of film star Tyrone Power. Two years after this appearance, Christian
would play the very first “Bond girl,” appearing in the TV version of Casino Royale opposite Barry Nelson.
Nelson Trindall of Marshfield, MS: “I made my
own teeth”
Trindall,
fortunately, was a dentist and not a hobbyist. As a dentist, he would serve the Massachusetts town for 45 years.
